Press Release Summary: June 25, 2008 - When workers handle hazardous waste or ship hazardous materials, training is not just a good idea, it's the law. According to the EPA, workers who handle hazardous waste must be trained annually, and the federal DOT requires that workers involved in the shipment of hazardous materials be trained at least every three years. Environmental Resource Center, the leading provider of environmental and safety training, will present the mandatory training in Raleigh, NC at the Radisson Hotel, Research Triangle Park on July 14 - 16, 2008.
Hazardous Waste Management: The Complete Course will be taught on July 14 and 15, 2008. Hazardous Materials Certification Training for DOT 49 CFR Transportation Regulations will be taught on July 16 at the same location.
Environmental Health and Safety Laws and Regulations will be taught at Environmental Resource Center's office at 101 Center Pointe Drive in Cary on July 17, 2008. Classes begin at 8am and end at 5pm each day.
Untrained workers are frequently the cause of environmental accidents and penalties. For 2007 alone, NC DENR had fined North Carolina companies more than $825,000 for the mismanagement of hazardous waste.1
